Out of Scale

A window places a figure, an interior and distant buildings on the same plane. Different distances overlap in the glass; I have to work out again where I am looking from and what I am looking through. In the next photograph, the city shrinks to the lower edge of a wide sky. Layers of rock then carry my gaze further and further away.

一扇窗把身影、室內與遠處的建築放在同一個平面。玻璃讓不同的距離重疊，我得重新辨認自己正從哪裡往哪裡看。到了下一張，城市縮到大片天空的下緣；岩層又把目光一重重帶向更遠處。

I try to find my bearings, but the sense of scale changes from one image to the next. Framing can bring a distant place before my eyes, or make a nearby figure larger than the buildings beyond it. I can fit a distant view into a photograph, yet I cannot tell what size I should be within it.

我試著找一個能站穩的位置，大小的依據卻隨畫面改變。取景可以把很遠的地方收進眼前，也可以讓近處的身影比遠處的建築更大。我能把遠方放進照片，卻不能替自己找到一個相稱的大小。
